ADRENAL  GLAND
(SUPRARENAL)
The only gland we have with a medulla and a cortex.
The middle layer of the cortex has cells that are arranged in distinctive columns
Be able to identify under the ‘scope:
     Gland
     Cortex
     Medulla
Hormones:
     Medulla
        Epinephrine
        Norepinephrine
     Cortex
        Corticosteroids
          Mineralocorticoids
          Aldosterone
          Glucocorticoids

The adrenal gland is divided into an outter cortex and an inner medulla.  I look for the differentiation of these two regions.  In addition, the zona fasiculata (the middle layer of the cortex) is characterized by cells that have a columnar arrangement (as indicated by the faint black lines in the photo above).  When I see those cells, I know this is the adrenal gland.
